Important Trip Decisions to Make

When deciding to go on vacation, there are a lot of decisions you have to make to ensure you get the vacation you are looking for. Deciding to go with a travel agent is a great first step. Not only will a travel agent provide insider knowledge that will prove crucial in your decision-making but they will also have your back if things don’t work out as planned.

To start the trip discussion process with your travel agent, there are a few items you need to decide on right away:

1. Trip Dates: Are there specific trip dates you have in mind? Are those dates flexible? Trip package prices can vary from day to day, so if you have any flexibility let us know from the beginning so we can find the best price for you.

2. Budget: It’s important starting out that you have a number in mind about what you want to spend on your vacation. This is the starting point for every agent. This budget might evolve through the qualifying process but it’s a good place to start. Simply saying you want a “cheap” trip doesn’t mean a lot to your travel agent because “cheap” means different things to different people. By having a number in mind, it ensures the search process will go much smoother.

If you don’t have a number in mind, but have a specific destination or trip that you like, that works too. Your travel agent can give you advice on a budget.

3. Vacation Feel: What type of vacation are you looking for: warm weather, all-inclusive, relaxing, nature based, big city? What do you like to do on vacation: hang out on a lounger chair on the beach or run through a theme park? Answering these questions helps your travel agent narrow down what location or resort will work best for you.

4. What you don't want: Knowing what you like is just as important as knowing what you don’t like. Are there any places you don’t want to go? Eliminating what you don’t want will leave a great list of prospective locales for you to look at.

5. Room type: Some people won’t stay in a room unless it has a balcony. For others, the view is most important. Some people don’t care for the added room amenities, as they’d rather save that money for activities they can do on their trip.

6. Anything else?: Is there anything else your travel agent should know before they start looking into vacation packages. Do you or someone in your travel party have any dietary restrictions or allergies that influence your food options? Do you prefer to leave from a certain airport, but will leave from another if you can get more for your money? Have you done any looking on your own and have found a place you are interested in?

If you know some details from each category, share them with your travel agent. It will make the search process much smoother and ensure we find you a great vacation!
