Toronto Tourist Must Dos

Toronto is one of the most visited cities in our country and a great tourist destination. Whether you are visiting from some far part of the country or from only an hour away, it’s easy to catch tourist fever in Toronto!

Here are some of my favorite tourist activities:

1. Medieval Times: This is hands down my favorite activity to do in Toronto. It’s a dinner show that pulls you into the times of knights, kings, and princesses. You’ll spend the evening eating delicious food and cheering on your favorite knight while see some majestic looking horses and jousting competitions. It’s not to be missed. Located just outside of downtown on the exhibition grounds, it’s easily accessible via taxicab or the subway.

2. Ripley’s Aquarium: A walk through tunnel with sharks swimming overhead. Do I need to say anymore?! Plus you’ll have the opportunity to see all sorts of underwater creatures in the many exhibits at the aquarium.

3. CN Tower: Located next to Ripley’s Aquarium, the CN Tower is an iconic building in the Toronto skyline. Ride the elevator up to the viewing platform for an expansive view of the city. Watch a short movie featured their theatre, and if you dare, stand on glass floor and look down at the city below. For the full experience, I suggest making a reservation at 360, the rotating restaurant at the CN Tower. While a little pricey, the food is delicious and it gives you an amazing view while you enjoy your meal. Admission to the CN Tower is included with your meal.

4. Case Loma: Casa Loma is a beautiful, old timey castle with tons of exhibits describing its history and beautiful grounds. In the basement tunnels you can see the movie posters of films that have been shot here.

5. Toronto Zoo: A great place for the young and the young at heart! The Toronto Zoo grounds are massive with all sorts of animals to see. Wear good walking shoes, because you will do a lot of walking between exhibits.

6. Steam Whistle Brewery: Located in the same square as the CN Tower and Ripley’s Aquarium, the Steam Whistle Brewery is a fun place to unwind with a good brew or take the brewery tour and see how that brew is made!

7. Hockey Hall of Fame: This place is a right of passage for all Canadians. Even people who aren’t big hockey fans seem to make their way to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Get your picture taken with the Stanley Cup, watch a short movie, test your skills as a goalie, and wander through the many exhibits. It’s an easy way to pass an afternoon and learn about our nation’s favorite pastime.

8. Toronto Island: This is a summer activity, but a great way to cool off or take a nice walk while feeling like you’re not in the city. Take the ferry over to Toronto Island. There are many activities to do. Spend time at the island beach or visit Centreville Amusement Park. You can rent a bike, canoe, or paddle board to get around the lagoon. Walk around the many paths and enjoy the view. You can bring a picnic lunch or eat at one of the island restaurants.

9. Walk along the Toronto Harbor boardwalk: While also a summer time activity, the boardwalk along Toronto’s Harbor is a nice stop on any tourist’s trip. Walk along and enjoy the views of Toronto Island, see the many boats around, or stop by one of the shops or restaurants. If you do visit in the winter, you can skate on the outdoor rink located along the boardwalk.

Bonus: Toronto City Pass

If, while on your trip, you want to visit Casa Loma, the Toronto Zoo, CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, and the Royal Ontario Museum your best bet is the purchase the Toronto City Pass. By buying this pass, you’ll save roughly 37% off of the gate prices. It’s a great deal for the busy tourist!
